Stress is the Achilles' heel of our modern culture. A majority of our modern diseases including high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, migraines and ulcers can be attributed, at least in part, to stress. Most of us are desperately in need of two weeks in Tahiti; a good dose of R & R to calm our minds and reset our nervous systems. The antidote to our stressful lives is relaxation.
More and more frequently doctors and friends alike recommend stress relieving activities such as exercise, yoga and meditation. The benefits of exercise and relaxation on mind and body are now scientific fact. However, there are times when it can be difficult to take an hour out of your day to exercise or learn a meditation technique. But don't give up on the need to balance stress and relaxation, there is a simple answer.
Binaural beat technology (I know it's a mouthful, so we'll call it BBT) allows you to relax very deeply by simply putting on a pair of headphones. I know, it sounds too good to be true and I'm sure you have heard of other meditation or relaxation CDs making big promises, but ultimately under-delivering. Let me explain what BBT is and why this one is different. BBT is a method of playing a different beat, or frequency, in each ear. If you think this sounds annoying, don't worry. The BBT is underneath beautiful ambient sounds and it is imperceptible. The different frequency in each ear creates a third frequency called a standing wave. For example, let's say that the frequency in your left ear is 100hz and in the right is 110hz. The difference between these two frequencies, the standing wave, is 10hz. Okay, so why does that matter? Because, your brain operates in the same range of frequencies. The frequency produced by the CD resonates, of influences, your brain. Therefore, you can use these special CDs to tune your brain to a desired state. Do you want better concentration, more creativity or deeper relaxation? Just put in the CD. Here is an overview of the major brain states:
![]() Beta (14-30 Hz)Concentration, arousal, alertness, cognition |
![]() Alpha (8-13.9 Hz)Relaxation, super-learning, relaxed focus, light trance, increased serotonin production |
![]() Theta (4-7.9 Hz)Dreaming sleep (REM sleep) |
![]() Delta (.1-3.9 Hz)Dreamless sleep |
Don't worry about the technicalities here, the point is BBT technology can create a specific frequency which encourages your brain to increase it's production of that brainwave. In the example above, if BBT creates a frequency of 10hz then your brain goes into more of an Alpha state (8-13.9hz). The result is more relaxed and focused state. If a Theta brain wave is encouraged you go into a state that is creative and very relaxed, somewhere between sleep and awake. When Delta waves are encouraged, we go into a very, very deep state of relaxation. This is the realm of master meditators and a state that is very regenerative to the body and mind. The ability to enter this regenerative state without decades of practice is literally priceless. Or, at least it used to be.
One pitfall to warn you about, with regards to BBT, is that all CDs are not created equally. I have tried cheaper BBT CDs from other companies and they simply do not have the impact of the Centerpointe CDs. I tried to find a cheaper version to sell to my patients, but they did not stack up to the real deal.
I put the incredibly relaxing tracks from my Centerpointe CDs onto my MP3 player (which happens to be my cell phone) and when I travel they are always with me. When I am on the airplane or having difficulty sleeping in the hotel, I just put in my earphones and before I know it....I'm slipping into a deeply relaxed state, soon to be sleeping peacefully.
The Centerpointe program is more than just relaxation, it is recalibrating your nervous system and brain to achieve a greater state of peace in your daily life and promote personal evolution! It may sound too good to be true, so Centerpointe lets you try it for free! Just click on any of the links in this article or the Centerpointe banner in the right margin and try it for yourself. (If you have difficulty with any of the links/banner not responding, just refresh your browser page and try again.)
Happy listening,
Tim
